About
Our 25 x 50mm BS 5534 graded treated roofing battens are designed for use in pitched roof construction, providing a fixing and supporting framework for suitable roof tiles and slates. These preservative-treated timber roof battens are specified as graded to BS 5534, the British Standard covering slating and tiling for pitched roofs, making them suitable for roofing applications where the batten dimensions, grading and treatment meet the requirements of the roof design.
The 25 x 50mm roofing batten is commonly used for fixing clay and concrete roof tiles, as well as certain natural slate and fibre cement slate coverings. The wider 50mm face provides a larger fixing surface than 25 x 38mm battens and is commonly specified for roofing applications with rafter spacings up to 600mm centres, subject to the roof covering, batten span, loading requirements and manufacturer's installation instructions. The correct batten size and fixing arrangement should always be confirmed against the project specification.
These graded roofing battens are preservative treated to help protect the timber against fungal decay during service. The appropriate treatment specification and Use Class should be confirmed for the intended roofing application. The blue or green colouring commonly associated with graded roofing battens can help distinguish them from general-purpose timber, although colour alone does not demonstrate compliance with BS 5534.
Supplied and priced by the linear metre, these 25 x 50mm treated roofing battens allow customers to calculate quantities according to their roofing project requirements. Individual lengths and the number of pieces supplied may vary depending on stock availability. If your installation requires specific continuous lengths, please contact Simply Timber before ordering to confirm availability.
When installing roofing battens, ensure they are securely fixed to suitable supporting rafters using appropriate corrosion-resistant fixings. Batten spacing should follow the roof tile or slate manufacturer's recommended gauge, with joints positioned over suitable supports in accordance with the applicable roofing specification. Any cut ends should be protected in accordance with the preservative treatment supplier's recommendations.
As a natural timber product, some variation in colour, grain and surface appearance may occur. Roofing battens should be stored appropriately before installation and inspected to ensure they meet the requirements of the intended application.
If you require larger quantities, specific lengths or BS 5534 graded roofing battens for a new roof, extension, repair or refurbishment project, please contact Simply Timber to discuss availability and request a quotation.
Please note: We can offer specific lengths if required, so please contact us for a quote.
